Module 6

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
From the first video I learned about the process of creating a sculpture from scratch. How the sculptor comes up with an idea, makes a small scale version of the sculpture in clay, and how months later after it's been worked on by many more sculptors it becomes a full size, detailed sculpture. I also found it interesting how the history of gathering stone from the quarry was carved into marble walls.

From the second video I learned how glass and ceramic are given shape and the vast use of both of them in all kind of fields, from tableware to windows to spacecrafts.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The first video showed the methods for making sculptures explained in the book. It showed the clay model, the cast done on the clay model, and carving done in the process of shaping the full size sculpture.

The second video builds up on the ideas in the book that glass and clay are very versatile, and can be shaped and modeled for any purpose.  Clay can be modeled used to make stuff like ceramic tiles, or plates, or even used in making protective shields for spacecrafts. Glass can also be used for making every day use objects as well as be used in architecture for making all type of windows.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?
I think the videos were interesting and offered an insight on the process of using these materials to make something artistic like sculptures, or something practical like laminated glass and ceramic tiles.
